Trish Leakey is the Auxiliary Services Manager for the Colorado Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind. She will share information about the Legal Auxiliary Services (LAS) program, which provides communication access services to the Colorado State Courts, state administrative bodies and rural areas of the state. She will review Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning services, the credentialing of providers, and how to request such services, including for jury service.

Jennifer McBride attended the National HLAA Convention in New Orleans in June. She will share information from the workshops she attended and tell us about the wonderful experience of being there in fully accessible meetings with so many other people with hearing loss.

International Hearing Dogs, Inc.
International Hearing Dog, Inc. (IHDI) staff will discuss the role of hearing dogs for people who are d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing and demonstrate live the work that a hearing dog performs. IHDI staff will provide an overview of the organization and discuss opportunities for community members to get involved by becoming homes for hearing dogs in training, on a short-term or longer-term basis - a rewarding experience and wonderful way to serve the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. We will have time for questions and answers about dog training and the client application process etc.

Dr. Vinaya Manchaiah, Professor of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine; Director of Audiology at University of Colorado Hospital (UC Health)
There has been tremendous progress in the merger of medical devices and consumer technology in hearing devices during the last decade. Over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids are the new category of hearing devices that are regulated under the FDA. In this talk, we outline the categories of hearing devices, discuss the benefits and limitations of OTC hearing aids and provide some tips for consumers who are considering these devices.

Her book is being used around the globe to educate and empower those with hearing loss, as well as their friends and family members, to be more effective communicators. We are excited to have her share the key concepts with our Chapter.
