November Meeting

Saturday, Nov. 16, Spencer Kontnik

IMPORTANT - Time Change & Room Change: This meeting will be 10:00am-12:00pm in the Koelbel Library, Meeting Room B.

Spencer is a Disability Rights Lawyer. He is the founding partner and attorney with Kontnik and Cohen, LLC. He will be discussing the state of disability accommodation law in Colorado specifically emphasizing equal access for deaf/hard of hearing individuals. He will discuss his lawsuit as a prospective juror in Denver. He will also provide guidance for members on how to be an effective self-advocate. Spencer was born with a profound hearing loss.

October Meeting

Saturday, Oct 19, Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implants
1:00 - 3:00pm in Meeting Room A at the Koelbel Library

Our speaker will be Amy Holley, Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implant Consumer Specialist. Amy will discuss hearing loss prevalence, when hearing aids might not be enough, how a cochlear implant works, cochlear implant candidacy and Advanced Bionics technology.

September Meeting

Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 - HLAA Convention Highlights
1:00-3:00pm in the Forum Theater at the Koelbel Library

Our speaker will be Binisha Shrestha. Binisha attended the HLAA National Convention as our delegate. She will share the highlights of the convention and some of the many workshops she attended.

We will not have a meeting in July. Instead we have planned a fun field trip to the Aurora History Museum on Saturday, July 20th.
We will have a guided tour of the Mosaic of Cultures exhibit, "
Aurora's Nepali Community". Meet at 11:00am at the museum. Museum entry and tour are free. After the tour, we will go to lunch at Bajeko Sekuwa - a Nepalese and Indian restaurant.

Saturday, June 15, 2024 -Technology Show and Tell
1:00-3:00pm
in the Forum Theater at the Koelbel Libary

This month our members will share a variety of assisted listening devices, speech-to-text apps, counter hearing loops, remote microphones and more. After the presentations there will be time for hand-on interacting and instruction on using these devices.

The presentation will include ideas and suggestions for supporting individuals, couples, and families who are impacted by hearing loss.

Our speaker will be Sara Mathews, a doctor of audiology, specializing in Tinnitus Management.

Dr. Mathews will discuss the different stages of tinnitus habituation and what patients experience as they move through the stages. Exercises, guidance and treatment options will be shared for each stage.
